In July the Information Technology Education & Training department will offer the following Perl programming clases taught by Peter Scott:

• Thu Jul 12 Beginning Perl
• Beg: No Perl experience required; some programming experience required.

• Fri Jul 13 Perl II
• II : Expanding on the introduction to Perl.

• Mon Jul 16 Perl III
• III: Mainly focussed on references & complex data structures.

• Tue Jul 17 Object-Oriented Perl
• O-O: Creating and using objects. Needed for Web, DB, or Net.

• Wed Jul 18 Web Programming in Perl
• Web: Processing forms, displaying HTML, automating interaction.

• Thu Jul 19 Network Programming in Perl   *** NEW ***
• DB : Persistent storage with DBM files, using DBI to talk to Oracle.

• Fri Jul 20 Database Programming in Perl
• Net: Email, file transfer, host monitoring, client/server data transfer.

Purpose

• Improve lab wide communications between users of Perl.
• Create a forum where users may discuss and receive advice concerning Perl projects.
• Increase lab wide reuse of existing Perl software.
• Provide Perl tutorials for group members.
• Meet biweekly to discuss some aspect of the Perl language or demonstrate coding techniques.

Obtain Perl for non-Unix platforms

• MacPerl .  (I suggest the MacPerl build for MPW) .
