DAY HIKE LITTLE JIMMY - MT. ISLIP - WINDY GAP LOOP SATURDAY, JULY 27 Hike Leader: Jeff Weiss (354-3609) Distance: Approx. 8 miles Total Elevation Gain: 2,300 ft Classification: Moderate Trip Description: This is a really nice hike, up in the high country of the San Gabriels. We will start off the Angeles Crest Highway, a couple of miles past Kratka Ridge and just past Islip Saddle. Hiking in the midst of Jeffrey and Sugar Pines, we'll pass through Little Jimmy Camp Grounds and then go on and up to Mt. Islip, at 8,250 ft (2,515 m). Mt. Islip affords a spectacular view of the heart of the San Gabriel range. From the peak of Islip, well descend down the southern ridge toward the Crystal Lake area. Near Big Cienega we'll take the Windy Gap trail north and loop around, walking up through Windy Gap and passing by Little Jimmy Springs. What To Bring: The usual day hike stuff. A lunch, snacks, and lots of water (at least 2-3 liters). Hat. Windbreaker. Hiking Boots. Sunglasses. Sunscreen. Small First Aid kit. Camera, etc. Confirmation: Contact Jeff (354-3609) to confirm and to organize carpools up to the trail head. Plan on leaving Pasadena area at 7:45 am for a 8:30 am start.
